The World Series of Poker launched its long-awaited real-money online poker room at 9:19 a.m. PT on Thursday, joining Ultimate Poker as the only two running operators in Nevada's real-money market. WSOP.com, which is powered by the software of 888 Holdings, will be available to Nevada residents and the nearly 40 million annual visitors to the state.

WSOP.com will be officially launching their real money online poker offering to residents of Nevada, as well as visitors to the state, on Thursday, September 19th. The site has had a 'soft launch' going on for the last couple of days, but Thursday will mark the official launch of the real money online poker offering. You must physically be located in the state of nevada to play for real money on wsop.com. You must meet all geo-location requirements to play for real money. You can fund your wsop.com account from anywhere but you cannot play unless you are physically located in nevada. Wsop.com nevada is only playable on pc and mac. “This is a historic moment for our company,”Caesars Interactive Entertainment CEO Mitch Garber said this week. “A state-of-the-art poker offering from one of the most established and regulated operators in the United States, is finally here. We have taken the 43-year-old World Series of Poker brand and combined it with the Caesars Entertainment portfolio of assets to provide consumers with what we believe will be an unrivaled poker offering to satisfy today’s technologically savvy consumer. We will bridge land-based and online gaming in ways that have never been seen before.”

WSOP.com will initially operate in a Field Trial stage of development (a period in which CIE and the Nevada regulatory authorities will closely monitor all facets of the operation). The real-money site will be available for both PC and Mac Users, offering a wide variety of games and stakes, including daily $100 and $25 freerolls for players of all levels.

The site will also offer satellites into land-based WSOP events including the $10,000 WSOP Main Event at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. WSOP.com will kick off its unique offering with an opportunity for players to win their way to the WSOP Europe (WSOPE) in Paris, France, with a €10,000 WSOPE Main Event seat and $3,000 in spending money up for grabs.

“As a long-standing World Series of Poker employee it is gratifying to see this day upon us,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “Our players have played an important part in the success of the World Series of Poker the past decade, and we will work very hard to cultivate a strong poker community and positively represent the game of poker in the online world as we have in the land-based environment.”

In October, the site will host the WSOP.com Online Championships, a series of nine tournaments with $500,000 in added money. Nine different winners from those events will get the opportunity to participate in the first-ever “Online Nine,' which will coincide with the November Nine on Nov. 4-5, 2013.

When most people think 'poker,' they think World Series of Poker. The annual WSOP awards tens of millions of dollars to skilled, lucky poker players from around the world and has the power to create household names. So, it comes as no surprise that one of the biggest, most polished players in the Nevada online poker space is WSOP-com, the official online poker site from Caesars Interactive Entertainment. The WSOP site officially launched for real-money play on Sept. 19, 2013.

Caesars Interactive Entertainment (CIE) is a subsidiary of Caesars Entertainment, one of the titans of the casino industry. Caesars owns and operates resorts across the United States under the Caesars, Harrah's, and Horseshoe names. While the company is kicking things off in Nevada, it’s positioning itself to operate online poker in several other states when it becomes legal in those regions.

Caesars has partnered with 888 Holdings for its software and already operates WSOP online poker sites in various European markes. CIE also owns social games under a division called Playtika — including Slotomania, and a WSOP-brand Facebook game — and partners with Microsoft and Electronic Arts for games on the Xbox platform. Caesars executives also have indicated that the company may take another path with online poker. Donald A. Colvin, Caesars CFO and executive vice president, told shareholders that while the company is introducing the 888 software in Nevada, the company also acquired the rights to France's Barriere Digital as a potential future solution. 'We'd anticipate that we might migrate off the 888 platform and onto the Barriere platform in due time,' he said.

Software

Utilizing the 888poker platform was a good move for WSOP-com, as the software comes out of the gate looking entirely polished and including the features poker players had come to expect before Black Friday's poker prohibition.

The software allows for resizing tables, tile/cascading, gives players a time bank, has a decent lobby-filtering system, hand histories, synchronized breaks, and more. Those may seem like obvious features for an online poker site to many longtime online poker players, but they have not proven to be standard yet in the now-legal U.S. online poker space. The options get even more advanced, like allowing for keyboard shortcuts, and allowing players to optimize things like how a table with action pending is handled (Does the window pop up? Does it flash in the taskbar?), and where your cursor goes by default in the poker window (the chat box or the betting box?). There are also, of course, the more basic features that nearly every poker site has, even other newcomers into U.S. poker, like classic, jumbo, and four-color decks, or options to change avatars and table felts.

Considering WSOP-com recently launched and is only available in Nevada, the site's traffic numbers are unsurprisingly low. The numbers aren't indicative of what traffic will be when the site has been given time to cultivate an audience, or when it opens shop in new states (let alone joins any interstate compacts).
